[Alberg30] Interior laminated bulkheads?

#134 has the laminated bulkheads. It is a Formica wood-grain simulated
look. Has anyone replaced the laminated bulkhead(s), painted, or covered
with a veneer? After 35 years and several mounting holes, ours has some
de-lamination bubbles.

I have used min-wax also for the past 5 years! has held up well./
Min-wax is
a poly-urethane. I prefered the satin and the sheen is low luster. Easy
application!

Trish and I cleaned all of the interior buckheads completely and used
and
Minwax varish to finish them. Since the wood is inside and protected
from
the sun it is not necessary to buy expensive marine varnishes with UV
inhibitors. We prefer the semi-gloss look, but that is a personal
preference. Once complete, this is a very low maintenace way to keep the
boat looking great. The wood is sealed from stains and moisture, which
means
just dusting, as you would at home. I think that a re-apply isn't
necessary
but every 10 years or so.

As long as were on the subject of interior finishes, anyone have a
quick
thought on finishing the teak ply bulkheads? They're old and drab, dark
and
dull. What's an easy-ish approach? Simple sanding and slapping
something
on that would look OK is the level of perfection I'm after, at some
point.

I thought about gold leaf around the head mirror and marble counter
top
with a pair of coach lamps and sconces around the port, etc. May be
too
fancy! Has anyone frescoed a ceiling in the A-30 yet? Love those
chubby
cherubs and heavenly scenes......

     Half serious, half not,
Cheers,
Randy
