Kilz is a great product as a stain blocker. I would use it as a base or
primer for any finish coat, but not as a finish coat itself. It comes in oil
base and water base. For boats, oil based paints are the choice. Water based
Latex paints retain moisture which leads to mold and mildew. Removing latex
paints from the interior is a big, time-consuming and nasty job, but needs
to be done prior to the application of any oil based products.
