[Alberg30] Yanmar 3GM

Dick,

I can answer a few of the questions concerning the 3GM installation in the
Alberg. An Alberg moored near us has this particular motor installed. 

1. I am not sure since the Albergs that have installs are in the hull #100
range. #114 has a 2GM20F installed and required steel Z brackets which the
motor mounts are attached.

2. The engine needs to be attached to motor mounts, it is physically
impossible to attach the motor directly to the brackets.
   Also the diesel will vibrate excessively and eventually cause stress
fractures if not installed on motor mounts. 

3. The shaft can remain at a 7/8" but the prop pitch should change, I am
running a 13" X 13" prop with excellent results.

4. Yes the motor will fit in the Alberg but maintenance will be an issue,
space will be limited.

5. Yes the 2GM20F pushes the wet exhaust without any issues.

I am going to buy a Yanmar 3GM to replace an Atomic4.  Has anyone
replaced an Atomic4 with this particular Yanmar.  I need a lot of help
before I start.  I know this engine may be overkill for an Atomic4 but
my Atomic4 went to engine heaven and I got a great deal I couldn't pass
up on a slightly used marine fresh water cooled Yanmar 3GM.

1. Does the motor bed in the boat have to change drastically?
2. Do you use the engine mounts or attach the engine directly to the
boat?
3. Does the shaft or prop HAVE to change?
4. Can I put a 3GM in an Alberg 30?
5. Can the 3GM push the wet exhaust all the way up to the muffler?

Any assistance anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
