Dick,
we that is my wife and i this past august purchased a new
to us 1972 , 35morgan with soft foreward decks condition. knowing we could
fix the condition and install
roller furling.i am brand spanking new to sailing .
Sue my wife had sailed over oceans,up canals,etc.
5years on an alberg 30. last year after 2&3 level certification A>S>A> in
tortola i was not only hooked
more like a bi-polar heroin addict of the two i am only
bi-polar. i came out this year.
i'm 48 and portly[fat]last year 6ft.tall 276pounds.
our work schedules finally allow us to seriously consider
buying a good quality made older boat, around 30feet
we agree would be good to learn to implement what i thought i learn in
tortola.
the mission has been targetted and i find an alberg 30 with
new engine on the hard 41/2 hours from home ,tell the wife she says i no
what it looks like you go for your irish
ride with strict BiPolar instructions to leave all checks,cash,credit cards
all forms of I.D. at home,
then allows me to carry one drivers license.
i get to yard where our new engine diesl alberg 30 is waiting for me to take
her home.its july hot 96degrees
slim jim[thats me] is sweating in the ac in the truck.
made arrangements to inspect the boat its open waiting
for me to come up the ladder to see her.
for a big guy like me i felt trapped in a sub 60 fathoms
down. i now depressed my wife loved her alberg 30 almost as much as she
loves me.thats why im on this
site reading and learning daily .
i know her heart was broken when i told her i myself
couldn't stay on that boat myself let alone two people.
the search concluded and we settled for a stand up in cabin 30yr old
fantastic 35 morgan in august this year.
we found her in Georgetown ,Maryland. at sailing assocates slip13, boat name
Murphys Law.
this ain't nor isn't no joke. boat also has yanmar 3gm 27hp
engine installed 2000 with 194hrs. on it.
former owner never sailed it ,bought it for it's slip side pleasure, and
trouble free engines motoring ability to go
534 miles as he advertised on one tank of gas. he owned boat for 2 years
prior replaced former gas engine spent
over 10k plus . he gets in financial bind i was the lucky
Irishman iguess.Or so i thought ?
i found it difficult to get to the oil stick. and now have found it totally
impossible to get a somewhat over extended stomach through the cockpit
locker hatch .
in true hooah tradition i have just shed 30pounds now at 240, still can't
fit thru hatch to work or just touch that pretty little baby down below. my
wife get the pleasure
of playing in my engine room. of couse she doesn't
view this the same way as i describe.
my point is i want an alberg 30 for my wife who deserves
to have one as partial payment for enduring being married
to me for the past nine years.
if your boat were the right alberg 30
and i could afford to buy the boat ?
2 asa courses do not make a sailor?
they made one avid enthuiast who learned real quick
he didn't know what he needs to be a safe sailor but
i will,god willing i will.
how could i get your boat from la. to the chessapeake
bay ,cost effectively? without my wife knowing. meaning
i could not be involved in the physical presence away from home to help .
any thoughts i'd appreciate.
ps. i will be a lean sailing machine @ 220 pounds
next march sailing season.
