[Alberg30] seacocks and remodel

I happened to be in the process of replacing seacocks today, and after
reading the messages here, I worked up the guts to pull off a valve from the
thru hull and brave the water. out of a 3/4" thru hull there wasnt much
water (only 4" below the water line) I was dismayed to find that not only
was the seacock plastic, but the previous owner had installed plastic
thru-hulls, which I dont trust. On another note, My cockpit lockers have
rotten ply bottoms glassed in and I am in the process of tearing them out. I
am seriously considering sealing the port hatch and converting this area
into storage/berth/engine-stuffing box access, this space would be part of
the cabin (I have no ice box). Has anyone tried this? it will open up
storage area that before was hard to access for me. thanks for all the help
Ian
