Dick,

I got a "remanufactured" head for my A-4 about a year ago. I beleive the
source was in New Jersey. I'm sure that I was referred to this source by
Don Moyer, or, more likely, Featherman, his parts supplier. You can get
those phone numbers from www.moyermarine.com. The head I got was bead
blasted internally and externally surface ground or milled for flatness.
The cooling channels were somewhat eaten away, but it works great, and
was about $150, vs. something like $600 for a new one. It has been
trouble free. If you don't have any luck locating the source, private
e-mail me and I'll try to dig it up.

By the way, you may want to order some studs and a bunch of the head
nuts from Featherman, and get a stud puller from an auto parts or tool
store if you don't have one. I think I replaced 3 or 4 studs where the
threads got mangled getting the nuts off, and I replaced maybe half the
nuts. You'll need to order the head gasket anyway... Of course, you'll
want to use anti-sieze, and a torque wrench.

Moyer sells a "special" stud puller that he makes, but an automotive
type that fit a large socket driver worked fine for me. Also, you need
to put the right sort (blue, I think) of locktite on those studs or you
will have water leaks. Don Moyer was very helpful in explaining this,
torque values, and other details to me.
