[Alberg30] bilge pumps

The manual bilge pump on hull #303 is mounted in the port lazerrette. To
pump, the seat cover must be open to get the handle in the vertical handle
receptacle. Not a good option. Is this "original" equipment? Any suggestions
other than buying a manual pump that can be pumped horizontally thru the
cockpit/lazerrette wall?

Don Casey's excellent book, "This Old Boat" suggests that 2 electric bilge
pumps be installed. A small output pump with integral automatic swithch that
would pump most everyday problems and a second, large capacity emergency pump
with a manual switch. Has anyone done this? We sail across Lake Michigan, out
of sight of land. Thanks, Ed. Schroeder "Emotional Rescue".
