I'm with Chris and Ed on this. Besides you don't have much choice...the hose 
has to be replaced and the sealant needs to be re-done.

J, just keep on digging till you hit glass. I removed all that stuff and
rebedded the whole area. When you pull the hose out you will find the bronze
tube that the hose gets clamped to.....
