John,
I don't think you have to worry about the hull-deck joint coming
apart unless you bang it really hard. On the newer boats, at least,
the hull-deck joint is glued together with resin-soaked fiberglass
matt. I'm not sure what was used on the older boats, but I'm sure
it's not a dry joint.
