[Alberg30] Gord Proctor

 I have just learned through another list of the passing of Gord 
Proctor,  known as "Mr Alberg" in Toronto.  He attributed a significant 
part of his success in racing to usually being the first to reduce sail 
in a rising wind.
Gord was well into his 80s--he cut a dashing figure with his plaid hat 
and white hair and beard.  
He died at a Shellbacks luncheon, a meeting of enthusiastic sailors held 
every week through the winter aboard a ship moored in Toronto Harbour. 
 I was privileged to meet him a few years ago at Shellbacks, and we 
enjoyed several lunch-time conversations together. He was loved and 
respected in that company.
Despite the attendance of 9 emergency personnel in response to the 911 
call, he could not be saved.  I am told he died 'without pain among 
friends'.
