Mike,

I have a Triad trailer with dual axles and electric brakes. The axles are
rated at 6K each and she hauls the Alberg without any problems. I use a 2500
Dodge with a Cummins Diesel and have more than enough power. I would
definately use electric brakes over surge brakes, stopping this mass is the
biggest issue. If you check out our web site
http://www.geocities.com/jsss54/ <http://www.geocities.com/jsss54/> you
will see a picture of the Alberg setting on the trailer from that photo you
will see the keel is setting on the axles. The one thing Triad didn't do
what I would suggest is place a bow support since this weight is held by
both forward stations. When using stantions I purchased seven units 3 on
each side as you suggest and one under the bow which is the vee unit.

Regards,
Stephen

Subject: [Alberg30] Alberg 30 trailer

Hello all,
I need to build a cradle for my Alberg 30. Had done a set of good drawings
and took photographs. Then decided that I should just go ahead and put some
axles and a tongue on the cradle and make a trailer. I have seen on the
list some mention of Alberg 30 owners who have trailered their boats around
the country.

I live in Indianapolis and would like to transport the boat spring and fall
to and from selected marinas on the lower Great Lakes, i.e., Lake Michigan
and Lake Eire.

I visited Strictly Sail in Chicago last week and checked out the $7,900
trailers that Triad had for the Alberg 30. I have a Triad trailer but it
came with my Yngling and together they cost $2,000!!

I have a competent trailer builder here in Indianapolis who would be happy
to build me an excellent trailer. I just need some expert input from some
of you who have "been there and done that."

1) Does anyone have a diagram that locates the fore and aft center of
gravity for the Alberg 30?

2) I assume that two axles are plenty and easier to maneuver than three
axle trailers.

3) Are electric brakes preferred over haudralic surge brakes?

4) Has anyone built a "float off" trailer for the Alberg 30?

5) Where is the best place to purchase the adjustable popits for the sides
of the boat?

6) I think that three popits on each side is good so I can ease one off
and work on the bottom? I plan to use the trailer as a movable cradle, for
storage and working on the boat out of season.

7) Any comments or photos of your current trailers would be very much
appreciated.

8) Are there used trailers available out there in Albergland?

9) When I complete this project I will share finished photographs and
information so it can be shared on the Alberg 30 Web site...........if
deemed worthy.
