[Alberg30] Fwd: I know that you'll know ! !

He can use Dwyers in Ct or Metal Mast in Putnam Ct. Its unfortunate Metal
Mast had my boom in their shop during the month of November which could have
been used as a template, the owner is Claude and a very knowledgable
designer. Most of his work is with yacht builders but he does work for
individuals. They gave me an estimate of $1200 for a new boom. They also
fabricated a new mast head fixture last year for the Alberg mast for $220
containing internal sheaves and bail for blocks.

This story sounds awfully bizarre! If they wanted scrap why didn't they
Steal
the mast, too? I don't know what scrap aluminum is selling for, but I doubt
very much if stealing an Alberg 30 boom would bring much in scrap value for
the
risk of stealing! If somone needs a new spar, be it a mast or boom, I have
great confidence that Dwyer Spars of Connecticut can fabricate up a new one.
I
once bought a black anodized replacement mast for my Victoria 18. Dwyer
shipped it motor freight. My wife and I carefully measured out all of the
holes
and hole sizes on the old mast, transposed them to the new Spar and drilled
and
tapped all of the holes that got drilled and tapped, drilled through holes
and
used all of our mast hardware from the mast that was permanently bent from
when
it hit the tree while on the trailer and ripped the boat off off the
trailer.
We used a sealer on all hardware to prevent or minimize bi-metallic
corrosion.
