IMHO, The best of both worlds (not the most cost effective) is the Cape Horn 
wind vane with the smallest ram autopilot attached to that.  The autopilot 
drives the pendulum which moves the rudder that turns the boat.
Windvane stears when under sail, and the autopilot drives when under power.
