[Alberg30] holding tanks

Following is a message I sent in the fall to Andy on this.

At that time I perceived some issues that had to be worked out before there
can be a group buy. I think the group seeking to do this (I am one) should
try to get some options identified and see how many people would opt for
each one before there is a group buy. Maybe supplemental leadership from a
couple of people who have done this with boats of different vintages would
help in the process.

Many thanks, Andy. I and the others appreciate your work.

I went back this morning and re-read the thread on this and noted that there
were some fitting configuration issues that needed to be addressed. I was
unclear whether the Mike Lehman configuration as pictured (see his photo
attached), with input and output fittings on the top left side and the two
vent fittings on the top right side, would work for all vintages of A30s.

Some people had said that the top clearance for this tank when installed on
the older boats was less than on the newer boats. I also noted that Chet
Koop (message also attached) had ordered a blank tank (but came with a
surprise little hole which we obviously do not want!) so I assume there are
other ways to do this than the way Mike did it.

In short, I would assume that before an order can go in you need to know
exactly what others need in the way of fittings. Maybe a blank tank with
the fittings included will work best for all, though I personally think that
Mike Lehman's configuration will work best for PEREGRINE and I would
probably prefer that. But if we have to all go the same, I could live with
the blank tank with separate fittings.

I need to get working on that again. When I first started I called
Fawcett's in Annapolis because that's where the previous group purchase
was done before. The guy there told me that they don't work with Krakor
anymore (the folks who made the tank they ordered last time) but that
he's see what he could do and then call me back. Well, he never called
me back so I have to give them a call again to see what the deal is.

As for the tank configuration, it sounds like the 5057 will work for
everyone. It sounds like older boats like mine will need a slight
modification to accommodate the tank but overall it should work for
everyone.

I was going to try to get the project done before the end of summer but
it has now been pushed back to a winter project which is why I haven't
pursued it more quickly. I'll get back on it soon and post an update to
the list.

Regards,

Andy:

Weren't you the lucky devil who was leading the charge on the above? If
so, have you had an opportunity to more further on it?

Also, how were we doing on getting a single configuration (I think mine
must be like Mike Lehman's, as my boat is of the same vintage -- his is
No. 505)
