Aluminum is plenty strong, this 'fix' has been used for 20 years on many 
boats and is proven permanent repair. The company that fabricates the plates 
is in Baltimore and call Washington Aluminum Products. Speak to Kirk, sorry 
I don't have there phone# handy. Any one else care to comment on this repair 
or source for the plates.
