[Alberg30] boat movers--the real deal

The first time I moved my A30 across country the Gov't paid for it to the
tune of $6,000, from NC to OR (1997). I think they used Deep Water
Transport---not exactly the cheapest, at least thats what I have heard. The
driver was a bit nutty, and drove through a blizzard but arrived on time.

I used Boathaul.com to ship my boat from Portland, OR to Annapolis (May
1998). It cost $2,300 and was the best quote around. However, they contract
out their shipping, and the first truck to arrive was a flatbed. The driver
said he would use lumber to support my A30.

When the yard refused, they sent another truck a day later. This one was a
proper sailboat transport--- very competant and took great care. The driver
later appologized for not washing my boat upon delivery. I think he was
affiliated with "World Marine Transport."

I have used TruckaBoat when researching shipping costs--and received many
calls from people who offered competative rates for shipping my boat from
Annapolis to southern Florida---I think that cost around $1000-1,200.
Although I never actually used them, I got a lot of offers, and theyb seemed
to know what they were doing.

To ship my boat from Annapolis to the US Virgin Islands via freighter, I
used Boat Shipping International. Excellent, and I got to keep the badass
cradle too!. $7,600 and the cradle has to be worth $2,000. A bargain.
Because it took 5 days, and they coordinated everything. I highly recommend
them for overseas.

I have shipped my boat twice across country and once via freighter to the
Caribbean. Do as much work possible yourself, and in every case supervise
everything. You must be there to see it happen. If it feels wrong, it
probably is. Trust no one. You are the only expert.

Shop around and haggle.

was much cheaper than a lot of other quotes I got.  The service was fine;
she arrived on time in fine shape.
