[Alberg30] Dockwise Yacht Shipping, was Shipping the boat...

Well Dockwise got back to me. Unfortunately they are not shipping to
Australia next year, rather stopping at Auckland due to the America's Cup
demand. Also as I was shipping a 30 footer, on the small end of the scale,
it was unlikely that we could stay on-board during the trip, as there is
limited capacity and the bigger boats get first say.
Lastly the ballpark quote for a 30' from Port Everglades, Fl to Auckland NZ
was $10,500. This seemed quite reasonable especially considering that
included our own travel costs too! (Even though the boat cost me that much
originally! :-)
As for import duty it seems to read that if you can demonstrate prior usage
for a year for personal items they are exempt. Not sure if this counts on
a sailboat, but cruisers aren't hit with that kind of expense when they visit.
I am investigation freight shipping alternatives, however the Captain (and
my wife) has proposed an interesting solution. Why don't we sail it there
ourselves. We won't exactly be on time (acceptable: the job offer was from
a rich uncle who is amenable to the delay) but it'll be a lot of fun. So
that's the plan. I'm unemployed at the moment so I have time to plan and
prepare.
Anyone been 'round the world recently? advice?? ;-)
thanks
David
