Sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Are you at least going to support 
most of your weight with a safety line that you can sit in or a bosun chair. 
You expect to drill the holes straight and perpindicular to the mast, and 
then tap them for machine screws straight and perpindicular to the mast, and 
then insert the 2 (minimum) machine bolts before moving up to the next one? 
Why not pay to lower the mast, do it safely and accurately AND check the 
tangs and other standing and running items? Ed. Schroeder #303
