[Alberg30] Hull Problem

I purchased an Alberg 30 with hopes of rebuilding and keeping forever - hoping to sail to the Bahamas and Virgins - nothing to strenuous but I wanted something I could invest in and depend on. I started cleaning up and removed an AC unit that the previous owner had attempted to install in the locker across from the head and noticed that he had cut out the longitudinal brace which is about the size of a 2x4 the full length of the locker ---- how important is this (very I think) and how do I repair to transfer all of the longitudinal, transverse, and torsional stress -- and once repaired will it be seaworthy good as new
Any and all comments welcome
