[Alberg30] help

Chris,
Those numbers (and logic) were from me. When I did it, the mast was
perfectly straight when I was done. Even the tension on the fwd lowers with
minimal tension on the aft lowers, didn't cause an appreciable curvature.
(By the way, my numbers and averages were based on posts about a year
earlier on this list)
Remember that the starting point is with the mast basically straight and
the tensions even and light. You have to go back and forth from one shroud
to it's corresponding opposite shroud since when you tighten the starboard
one, you also tighten the port one (just by adjusting the starboard one).
When your done, the mast must be straight and in the middle of the boat or
else she won't sail the same on both tacks.
It's also important that you go out sailing in your average conditions
(weather) after your initial tuning. The final tuning is based on the "FEEL"
of the boat under sail. You might need to tweak it a bit to make it to your
liking.
Of course there is always the disclaimer that each boat is a little
different. You should not need very different readings from one side to the
other to make the mast straight.
Regards,
Brian (ex#497)
