[Alberg30] profurl nci32

Dave,

The main issue you may run into if the tang doesn't intersect the antiwrap
stop is halyard wrap when furling/unfurling the genny. This is a major which
effects the genny from furling or wear on the halyard itself. Dave, where
are you located? If you are in the New England area, I would volunteer some
time to help you rectify this issue.

Regards,
Stephen

Thanks for your help. I think I took the instructions too literally. They
indicated that the wrapstop "had" to be at the top of the forestay as the
picture in the instruction shows. I spoke to the technician(tom, not mark)
at Profurl and that view was confirmed. What I think you are saying is that
you can have the wrapstop lower - by several inches than the top of the
forestay if it allows the tang and the wrap stop to engage properly. If so,
that makes sense. I do understand how it is supposed to work and what was
frustrating was that what I saw and what I thought I should see were not the
same. I willl run this by Profurl on Monday. I still think I am ok if
unconventional and can fix it during the winter. The luff will have to be
shortened in any case.

Thanks again.

Dave: I am a little confused by your description. The normal way that
profurl stuff works is that the tang which is attached to the car riding on
the aluminum extrusion around your forestay is prevented from wrapping
around that extrusion when the sail is up by a black nylon(??) donut at the
top of the extrusion. With the sail up, if the tang does not reach the
donut, shorten the extrusion until it does. The trick is to get the length
of the extrusion correct--not so short when the sail is up that the tang
fails to engage the donut, nor so long that the tang interferes with the
block for the halyard. The extrusion does not have to cover all the
(upper)forestay. The critical dimension is the distance between the top of
the donut and the bottom of the halyard block--which should be not less than
the height of the tang. Whether this helps or not, I would take your
problem to Mark Reuther at Profurl, who owns Alberg30 # 228.

> I have some questions about what the Profurl NCI32 should look like when
installation is complete. the bottom line is this: When I hoist the upper
furler unit on the jib halyard, the jib shackle that attaches to the tang
runs all the way up to the block for the headsail but falls short of going
high enough to engage the tang because the tang is not long enough to engage
the wrapstop. ( I do not think that this will be a problem because there is
no halyard sticking out to wrap around the halyard anyway). Because of this,
I will have to have a few inches cut off the sail because the luff is too
long at present.

tang does engage the wrapstop? Have others rebuilt the top of the mast so
that the jib block is higher and engages the tang? Have I missed something
or is my arrangement - using the original location for the jib block a
"normal" result, given the assumptions I have made? Have others had this
problem/experience? I ask these questions because it just does not seem
right that the tang should not engage even though I do not think this will
be a problem for the reason I mentioned.
