On the older boats there were two solutions. (1) Leave the vents as is on
top of the tank and put another layer of plywood on top of the existing
plywood (the interference was only 1/4" or so) (2) relocate the tank vents
to the forward side of the tank as high as possible to prevent overflow.
George is right about hose lengths, the shorter the better (especially at
$10 per foot)

I believe the solution was to raise the plywood of the v-berth slightly.
I think this was accomplished in various ways.
If you put a tank in the anchor locker, I think you'll want a different
shape of tank. Personally, I'd rather the distance from the head to
the tank be as short as possible. Not only does this reduce the
surface area of the hose (which will eventually be permeable to oders),
but it reduces the amount of water needed to flush completely to the
tank and not leave sh^H^Horganic material clogging the hose.
