[Alberg30] Water in settee lockers

Has anyone solved the problem of water in the cockpit settee lockers short of fixing the toerails?

On my boat, it's different than described so far in this thread - but I think people are describing the parts inside the cabin too.

In the cockpit lockers, there is a v-shaped "shelf" about 4 inches deep, angled down towards the side of the hull and water collects in the forward trough of this v. The only way to empty it is to sponge it out or heel the boat and let it run into the bilge.

Can a small drain hole be drilled in the bottom of the v in the forward part of this shelf and then sealed with epoxy to allow that water to flow on down into the bilge if it starts to collect?

(Now that I've put my 7000lb. fuel tank back, this solutions comes up! Darn!)

I think that this may have been the original question too. Good question. Sounds like several of us don't want to dig into the toerails this summer. It's on my next winter project list though.
