Well said, Sailing Friends!

Call me a fool, but I have always lusted after an Alberg 30, Bristol 27 and
the Pearson Ariel (all Alberg Designs) as well as the Seafarer Rhodes Meridian
and Ranger as well as the Pearson Vanguard, all Phil Rhodes designs...well,
back in the Fall, I found a Rhodes Meridian on yachtworld.com down in
Florida...it had a little inboard diesel and looked like a proper little
boat. I bookmarked the site, and returned often to look at the photos...my
adult son, Brian, finally said, "Dad, why don't you just get over it, make an
offer and buy her?" I made an offer, which was accepted, and now am having
her transported to Lake Erie in May...I have never laid eyes on the boat. The
broker, George Carter, seemed like a straight-up guy when I spoke with him on
the phone. He told me before I wired him the money that the deck had a
couple of areas that were repaired for soft spots, the mast was delaminating
at the top and her beautiful mahogany trim needed some regluing and
refinishing. Friends on the Seafarer list kindly went over to look her over
and told me she was a fine little boat. On my budget, I was lucky to buy her
at all! But if I do encounter a problem, I feel confident and competent
enough to fix her. I suspect my skills are poorer than many of you and better
than a few. But at 53 years old, my belief is "Learn by Doing!" I would much
rather have my new vessel (1962:) than a brand new many other brand
boats...that's what is so great about the Alberg 30, they were beautifully
designed and well made!
