[Alberg30] two blade vs. three

You are right....I have a 3 blade prop and it is very easy to take off. I
tied my rudder with a dock line to my neighbors fence so that it was out of
my way and spinned the prop off.
I also changed the shaft by letting the shaft loose from the coupling
against the engine and pulled it out through the back. A tight Stuffing Box
Packing chews your shaft up.
To replace the cutlass bearing, just unscrew the housing from the hull and
knock the bearing out....replace and drill new water cooling holes. I left
my bushing 3/4 inch longer ...sticking out so as to have more bearing
surface. Also put 2 new long SS set screws each to lock the bearing in
place and then lock the set screw with a SS counter nut.
For the rubber hose just cut the whole thing open with some snips ( There
is spring wire inside the rubber tube to stop the hose collapsing) also cut
off the clamps. Replace rubber hose and SS clamps with new ones from a
marine store. Also replace Stuffing box packing. Tighten Stuffing box nut
to proper water drip and lock up with the big counter nut later. You have
to adjust the water drip a few times until you have just a few drops coming
in. The shaft has to have just a little moist lubrication otherwise it
burns in.The Teflon coated Packing has to compress and also absorb a
limited amount of water to work well.

The trick in this business is NOT to to try to take any clamps or hoses off
and then put them back...That is almost impossible and produces lots of
bloody knuckles....if you try to saw through the spring wire inside the
hose it becomes almost impossible ...cut the hose open and snip the wire
through....in 10 minutes that hose is off.
