[Alberg30] Fuel tank questions

Bill: The original tank vents were a small loop of copper tubing on the
starboard side rear cockpit coaming on the outside. The Lehman tank vent is
original and works well.  The original tanks were, apparently, located under
the cockpit floor. Question: why do you need to ground the fill for the tank
on your diesel? Presumably it is isolated from the tank (regardless of
composition)by a rubber hose. And, while the use of a gage is certainly a
valid technological solution, a piece of dowel notched for each gallon is
absolutely foolproof, requires no wiring, cannot fail due to corrosion, and
has worked at least since Diesel made his first engine.

My uncle (an Episcopalian Priest, and an Air Force Chaplain) used to intone:
My Bonny leaned over the gas tank,
The height of its contents to see--
He lit a match to assist him
Oh, bring back my Bonny to me!

I like diesels.
