[Alberg30] Shrouds and chainplates

Has anyone considered or actually changed from through deck chainplates to  the older style of exterior through hull chainplates.I know that for racers this is definitely out but for cruisers where maximum speed is not the priority there might be advantages e.g. easier fixing and sealing,reduced deck leaks and core problems.Longer tangs might be an answer to replacing the rigging.Just a thought from someone away from his boat for too long.Hope it doesnt get me blacklisted,expelled or banned from American shores as an undesireable.
