I am thinking of donating my CAL 27 if I can not sell it and I found out
that you need to get a recipient who can guarantee that your boat will
not be sold for three years. This prevents the IRS from comparing the
worth you gave for tax purposes and the sale price of the boat. If the
recipient sells before three years and the state value and the sale
value are different, there may be tax implcation to that difference.
>From what I hear, they are not nice implications. Our college has a
Maritime Academy and we take boats "all the time." You might want to
call Jerry Williams at Northwestern Michigan College 231-995-1000 - the
main number. He knows a lot about this topic.

Hi - I'm doing an article on charitable donation boats and was
wondering what the experience of people in this group has been,
either as donors or having bought a donation boat. Your comments,
experiences and observations would be useful to me in writing this
article. If you prefer, write to me offlist.
By the way, back in early July, watched an A30 coming from St.
Michaels on the Chesapeake Bay and out into the main bay - outsailed
damn near every boat there, including my Dufour 34, much as I hate to
admit it. Must have been a very skilled sailor <g>
Thanks all.
