[Alberg30] Hinged Mast Base

Unlike the mast on a Hobie 16 you will not be able to bend the mast of an
A30 very much to affect performance. The best thing is to have a properly
tuned rig and a backstay adjuster to tighten the backstay when the wind
increases. I use a backstay adjuster primarly to take tension off when the
boat is at rest.

Thanks Mike; makes sense; plus, since the main stays are on the centerline
of the beam, best opportunity to keep mast in column. Are you aware of
any reason to have the base adjustable? Seems to me, if one wants to adjust
mast rake (I used to increase mast rake on my Hobie 16 for better upwind
performance but don't know if it is a factor with a low aspect main), it
could be done with the stays.
