Hi: I'm away on assignment and have missed some of the discussion.

The photo of #499 is from March or April 2002, shortly after I received it via freighter in St. Croix. The landmass in the background is Buck Island National Wildlife Refuge, and I am between the north shore of St. Croix (by the yacht club) and Buck Island.

This photo was the third attempt to take a great picture of my boat finally sailing the Caribbean. On this particular occassion I put my nutty friend Sgt. Maj. Pete (Army Green Beret) adrift in the zodiac and made him snap photos with his $100 digital camera. This day, he took 25 pictures and only one came out. The others are of the zodiac floor, the sky, and water as he got thrown around.

Seas had 8-10 foot rollers, but we get big water between the north shore and Buck Island. As I recal is was blowing nicely and slightly overcast. Not really rough.

There is indeed a reef in the main, via original roller furling. I just wrap the mainsail around that until it feels right. The mainsail is orginal, old but serviceable for cruising. The headsail is my smaller jib, but not the storm sail, nor smallest working sail. I was bit overpowered, I think.

Interestingly enough, on this day, I recall being the only boat out there. On this day, she rocked.

the sail. It looks like he uses the roller reefing so it's hard to tell
that
it is reefed, but look at the end of the boom and it appears to have sail
wrapped around it.
