Actually, I've learned on the Atomic4 list that the salts that
precipitate out at high temperature are calcium salts, not
sodium salts. These calcium salts that are formed are not
soluable in water--hence the use of an acid to remove them.
The thermostat for a raw-water cooled Atomic 4 starts opening
at 140 F and the engine temperature should stay below 160 F.
Switching to freshwater cooling is probably the best
modification you can make on an Atomic 4.
Are there any raw-water cooled diesel auxiliaries? I thought
they always had heat exchangers, and that diesel's wouldn't
run at all well at cool temperatures.
