You might be interested in Ogden Nash's poem,
"Reflections On Breaking Ice":
Candy is dandy,
But liquor is quicker.
A friend of mine lived aboard in Annapolis in the mid-1970's
when the whole Bay froze. He said it was rather grim inside
the boat, since his heater wouldn't melt all the frozen
condensation inside the cabin, but the upside was all the
working space he gained by putting his sawhorses out on the
ice.
