I would also like to follow this thread on raising the bunks as we are considering doing this.

In addition, we wonder about bringing the backrest forward which would shorten the depth of the seat by about 4 inches and improve the comfort of sitting upright rather than slouching. The ratio of the length of the average knee to hip is not as long as the current depth of the seat. These modifications could be accomplished as one project.

I don't think I'd raise the seat so high as to be able to look out the windows but sufficient to increase the storage space under the seat would be great.
