[Alberg30] Mast bend

Bill,

I have done the same exact thing on Kasia #383 and noticed the same
performance improvement. I've kept it like that for a few months now.

Last month the rig went through heavy weather during my trip to Bermuda.
25knts for 20 hours under working jib only. and a few squalls to 40knts.
Although the whole boat was flexing (a surprise to me) and the rig was being
pumped uncontrollably, the rig was strong.

You mention you are planning to install a vang....I installed a Garhauer
vang, very good. However, you must re-enforce the attachment of the
gooseneck to the mast...I did it with 1/4 28 bolts. Because, when the storm
hit me on the way to Bermuda the track that the gooseneck is attached too
ripped right out of the mast. That is a separate story and you will read in
the A30 Mainsheet.

Apparently new forces are applied to the gooseneck with a vang and it must
be addressed.

Garhauer snatch blocks proved good too.
