[Alberg30] NOAA - Free Charts and Readers

Yes, the charts are free, but you have to go to one of the commercial
licensees to buy a program that will read & manipulate them. Several of
the companies offer free "viewers" which are crippleware versions of their
$$ programs and don't allow you full capability.

It's a little bothersome that the charts which were generated with taxpayer
money require you buy a commercial program to use them. I prefer the hard
copy, anyway.

It's much like the weather data that NOAA generates. Their progs go only to
commercial services that will allow you to read some of the products
"free" on a time delay basis. For full service you must pay them. Notice
that most of the weather maps you see on the net are from Intellicast or
Weather.Com.
