It sounds similar to a drill I've heard of but never seen: attach a long
line to the masthead (like a halyard) and use a crane ashore to pull the
ship sideways a couple of inches against a camel or the pier. The crane's
tensiometer reading, combined with the distance from the ship's CG to the
masthead, gives the ship's righting moment.
