Hey,
The port in the hanging locker, (well, everyone else's hangingh locker, but
not mine, because my boat no longer has a hanging locker due to the previous
owner's modifications of the layout,) had a leak, I know that 99 out of a
hundred times, port leaks can only be eradicated by removing the port, and
rebeding, so out it came.
To the point, the outer frame would not budge, and I removed the port
plexiglass from the inside. Obviously, then I cleaned out the old caulking, which is
the grey sh-- everyone has described here, and rebedded in clear silicone.
To a very important point; while trying to get the inner frame back on before
the silicone set, I had trouble lining up the bolts with the holes. Maybe I
flipped the inner frame. Anyway, I just drilled new holes from the outside
frame in to the inner frame, widening the holes just enough to let the bolts slip
in. Moral; alway mark the frames up and down, as the bolt holes were not
drilled perfectly square by Whiby, and so there is the lining up problem when
re-assembling.
The big doghouse ports cannot be flipped, unless you have two out at the same
time, and confuse them. There is always something to confuse!!!!!!
I was going to put my bilge pumps in today, thinking I would be able to clean
the bilge in a matter of minutes, and then proceed. WRONG!!!!! The bilge was
filled with the chewed insulation from the engine box, deposited there by the
family of raccoons that had moved in spring of 2002. Add some rain water,
diesel fuel, raccon hair, and I think waste, and, what a mess. Thank god for
wet/dry vacs. But, I did find the vice grips that fell down there, and an allen
wrench which had been down there from since before I owned the boat!!!!!!!!!
Maybe I'll get the pumps in tomorrow, if the rain holds off!! :)
