I do not have any pictures but on Emotional Rescue #303 I also found a short
boom vang. The canvas strap top portion had the 2 stainless steel clips that
fit into the boom, one on either side of the sail foot. Every time the boot
and boom went up and down, the clip moved forward ever so slightly. After a
time, it was ineffective.

I purchased a S.S. boom bail with a 2-3/4 inch opening from West Marine
$34.30. I mounted it to the boom with a 3-1/2 long, 3/8 inch bolt. I mounted
it the same distance out from the gooseneck as the gooseneck was from the
bottom of the mast so that it forms a 45 degree angle. On the rear bottom of
the mast I fastened a Mast hound from West Marine $21.55.

A 4:1 purchase block and tackle between the two forms the vang. We bought a
long enough length of line so that the vang can be used in an MOB emergency.
Unhook it from the boom and mast hound, move it aft on the boom, and use it
to haul the victim up and over the lifelines.
