[Alberg30] VW Diesel Engine

I am so glad to see marine people have picked up on this great engine. I have
a Yanmar in my A30 and no problems. But I own a VW Diesel Beetle which I LOVE
and you are right. The engine runs like a clock. 2800 to 3200 rpm (85-95 mph)
hour after hour after hour. At 1800, its just coasting. Now I'm talking about
the new TDI. Could anyone here be talking about the old Diesel from the 70s
Rabbit which you can get rebuilt? I imagine the new engine is much lighter
and more reliable, but a lot more expensive. What are the actual weight,
horsepower figures on it? Where do you get the transmission to go with it?
Obviously the auto tranny is not suitable.
Does anyone know the company that sells the marine package?
