Hi Dave,

I too was/am interested in the A30. And like you I live in Canada
(Toronto Area). My understanding is the A30 was built in Canada, but the
selection is kind of limited up here. If you look south of the border
than make sure you research the Canadian import requirements well. I put
my plans on hold for a while mainly because the economic climate and
also in part due to the apparent hassle of importing a vessel from the
US.

Good luck on your search.

Jim:

Thanks for the info. I envy you in the Chesapeake area with such a
large
fleet of A-30s. I'm not sure how many there are in the
Washington/British
Columbia waters, but it seems that my search will be fairly limited by
availability.

Are you aware of any specific problem areas: ie, de-lamination, or
fleet-wide structural ailments that I should be on the lookout for?

Is there a class design for retro-fitting a black-water holding tank?

Thanks much.

Dave

Dave, Barb,

I've been around the 250 boat Chesapeake fleet of Albergs since 1975 and
am
aware of the wide range of conditions you can find the boats in--the
asking
price generally reflects condition (especially if its been on the market
for
awhile). My opinion is that there's 3 price brackets: 1) free to
<$5K--this
will be a boat with all original equipment and no consequential
upgrades. It
also probably means that there hasn't been a lot of drilling and
modifications done and this can be an advantage if your looking to do a
restoration. If the decks are solid, and the bottom in good condition
you
have a good starting point. Plan on re-powering, re-canvassing,
re-electronicing, painting inside and out, if the boat hasn't spent time
in
the south the standing rigging is probably ok but needs a close look. 2)
up
to about $13K you start seeing upgrades and some TLC and should be very
sailable but not ready for extended cruising. 3) At around $20K you
should
find a well cared for boat with good sail inventory and equipment in
good
repair. These are my opinions which my not be shared by all.

Hello;

I am new to this list as of today. Since the days, about 30 years ago
when I

was a teenager and avid sailor, I have always loved the lines of the
Alberg

30. I vowed back then that if I ever were to be able to afford to buy a

boat it would be none other than an Alberg 30. I have recently finally
got

myself in a position where I can seriously start Alberg shopping.

I was wondering if members on this list could feed me some advice from
their

first hand experience on what to look for and what prices and features

should be expected when shopping for the Alberg 30.

Thanks in advance,

Dave Cooke
