I have heard of wood bow rollers breaking in big waves. The loads can be
pretty high when you have 2 anchors cantilevered out ahead of your stem
fitting, and only 1" of wood platform supporting them.

The guy who does http://www.triton381.com came up with a really nice bow
platform, which incorporates a stainless steel plate 3/8" thick
supporting a mahogany platform which is attractive and certainly strong
enough. He probably overbuilt it (because the first one he built was
destroyed during a gale and the anchor was hanging down and destroying
his new paint job), and I guess for a racer it wouldn't be desirable to
have so much weight riding so far away from the LCG, because it means
you will pitch more, but if you want to have a nice and strong anchor
platform that isn't ugly, and will hold 2 anchors, take a look at his
website as well as the ones which are shown on Alberg30.org, which are
also very good ideas.
