[Alberg30] Mooring to a dock!

Yves... The answer is maybe. The reason you have a bubble is failure of the
sealing system which means more than refilling is needed. If it's just
dried out & leaking you might just be able to refill. As a kid, I filled an
old compass with the (then) standard 50-50 alcohol & water mixture and it
worked fine for years afterward. Kerosene was also used. But when I bought
Isobar it had the original "Sailor" (?) compass with a bubble and was
unfixable; the diaphram leaked. Which was just as well because of its lousy
location in the bridge deck notch too close the the engine. My advice: (1)
if it's a good, expensive compass take it to a professional compass
fixer/swinger. There's always one around a major port. (2) If it's cheap,
comletely replace fluid with almost any light fluid and see what happens.
The gaskets or O rings are usually not easily replaceable. Don't be
surprised if the bubble reappears. (3) I replaced mine with a bulkhead
mounted Ritchie with which I'm very happy.
