[Alberg30] knee hull

Under the toe rail isn't so important.  It's under the deck, itself,
that you should be sure has no gap.  Your "before" pictures look like
there was a gap there.  Movement on the inboard end of the knee will
tend to pull the other end off the hull.

You don't need to use teak for the knees.  A cheaper hardwood will do
fine.  As you see, marine ply has worked pretty well.

I would cover the knee with a layer of mat, a layer of woven roving, and
another layer of mat.  The roving is very strong, and the mat increases
the surface area of the bonds.
