[Alberg30] Engine Overheating question

Gavin,

If it were blue you are burning oil. Black could be a few issues such as
injectors, dirty fuel or air filter, prop not matched to the motor. If she
were overheating, you would see steam coming from the exhaust and the motor
would be hot to touch. In some cases we see black smoke from marine engines
because they don't have a chance to heat up and run which burns off the soot
and cleans the rings and valves.

Stephen,
I would have to say black smoke. (not positive)
Also, I did'nt notice much drop in oil level at all
over the season.
What are you thinking?
Gavin

Hi All,
Lee was asking below about engine overheating...I dont see any reply yet,
but if I could add a more basic question...

After motoring for about 45min, I notice that my diesel begins to smoke
more. Would this be a sign of over-heating? (I have hull 617 with Bukh 10hp
single cylinder.)

Thanks,
Gavin

Hey gang!

Stargazer is hauled out. Her first season sailing since.....1997, has ended
successfully, with a few bumps along the way. They can be patched. :) Thanks
for all the support and advice.

Plenty of projects left to do that we did not get to last spring, and early
summer.

Question; has anyone found that while powersailing on port tack in any kind
of wind, the exhaust thru hull submersion causes back pressure in the
exhaust and overheating of the engine? If so, have they moved the exhaust
thru hull up to the lower corner of the transom to keep it clear of the
water at any angle of heel?

Thx,
Lee
