[Alberg30] Coamings

James,

If you have the old style bronze, remove the large screw in the center of
the winch and the entire hub slides off. The winch handle is the tool to use
when removing the screw. Inside the winch you have a plastic spacer on the
shaft with two sets of pawls and springs (try to keep these in tact). When
putting the winches back together grease the winch stem not the pawls. The
pawls should be oiled with a light oil upon reassembly.

Thanks Steven. I have the winch bases off already so I'll just need to work
on the coamings themselves.

By the way, would you happen to know if I can remove the exterior section of
the winches without having parts fly all over the place? I was able to
remove the winches from the pedestals but I don't think I'll get them back
on without the bolts turning as I try to tighten the nuts.

Thanks,

James

James,

The coamings should can be removed as follows.

Remove screws and nuts holding the winch bases to the coamings. Remove a nut
inside the cabin that hold the coaming and spacer to the hull. Then remove a
number 1/4 x 20 bolts holding the coaming to the hull, the moldings are
screwed to the coamings and are removed as one piece.

Hi there.

Does anyone have experience with removing the coamings. I'm not happy with
the way the sanding is going and there are some areas that I can't get to.
In order to make it come out as I would like I'm thinking of removing the
coamings but would like to know what to expect. In preparation for painting
the deck most of the hardware has been removed so the removal would be a
benefit in that area also.

Thanks,
