Actually, schedule 40 pvc (or whatever the black pipe is that you use for
waste) is about 1/7th the cost of the good sanitation grade hose sold by
West, BoatUS, etc.  It is also easier to make 90- or 180-degree turns in a
relatively small area using pvc elbows.  My tank had the exit facing the
wrong way, I used hose, then a 180 made of pvc, then hose, then a long
straight piece of pipe, then hose for the curving section to the pump out
fitting (I have no Y-valve).  It seems to work okay for the last 8 years or
so.
