I am new to this site. A few weeks ago I traveled to Toronto and
purchased a 1966 Alberg 30, hull #150, known as the Trillium III. The
boat was originally known as the "Jante II" and I am considering going
back to the original name.

When I first went out to look at the boat, my wife asked me how I
planned on getting the boat back to Lake St. Clair. I told her that my
brothers would fly out to help me sail her back. Two weeks ago we made
the attempt. We crossed Lake Ontario in a gale with 6 - 9 foot waves,
traversed the Welland Canal, crossed Lake Erie in a gale and sailed the
coast of Lake Erie in another gale. After seeing a weather forecast
that called for five more days of the same, I decided to put the boat up
for the winter in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Despite the hardships, the boat is great. I am anxious to make contact
with other Alberg 30 owners in the Detroit / Port Huron area so that I
might learn as much as possible about the boat during the winter. That
is before I continue with the relocation of the boat to Michigan this
May.

One last item. I am considering federal documentation for this boat. I
have received the information from the USCG to accomplish this, but I am
wondering if others in Michigan have done the same? I am interested in
this, because I am a US Marine and move every few years.
