Environment Canada's Hurricane Centre is situated on Halifax Harbour on
the 19th floor of an office tower. They had to evacuate and due to power
outages have been slow getting info out. A preliminary description is
now available at the website below.

Our Alberg 30 Tazar weathered the storm on her mooring in Merigomish
Harbour just off the Northumberland Strait without incident. We were
lucky to be outside the path of the eye and experienced winds no stonger
than 55 knots. It was still stong enough to down many trees in the
neighbourhood and at one point at 3 in the morning we were unable to see
Tazar which was about 100 yards from our living room window.

>Hi All,
>
>Due to very high water levels, (some boats floated over bridges, seawalls,
>front yard fences etc) and winds up to 180 Km/Hr, it did a lot of damage
>even in sheltered areas.
>Boats on the hard even blew over on their sides. Homes and buildings had
>their widows blown out.
>One couple on the Halifax Northwest Arm woke up with 8 boats in their front
>yard.
>
>Never seen anything like it before.
>
>Fortunately for me, a double bridle, half-inch galvanized chain and a
>1.5-ton cement block buried in the mud held my boat during the storm.
