[Alberg30] seafurl line drive jamming in bottom drum

Do you have a line drive winch to drive the furling line? I did on #497
when I owned her. If the line between the line drive winch and the furler
was too tight, it was very hard to operate the furler. My winch was fixed in
position so I went through hell doing and redoing the splice in the furling
line to get it just right. The next season, the new owner (still a friend)
had an even tougher time working the winch. My only assumption was that the
line had shrunk in length over the winter with repeated wet/dry cycles. He
just removed the line from the winch and furls it by hand as I used to do
before fitting the winch in the first place.
Regards,
Brian ex#497

Seafurl system which I believe was a group purchase item before our
stewardship. The system has performed flawlessly for us the last four years.
Before Isabel came, I removed the genny (among all the other gear above
deck) and she rode out what there was of the blow. After all was over and
genny re-installed, noticed that it took a-lot of effort to unroll and
refurl genny. Pulled genny back down tonight and checked upper bearing -
o.k., free turning. However discovered that the lower unit turns very hard.
Loosened up lower rope retaining drum and moved it down far enough to remove
rope from drum interior, still had hard time turning drum. As it was getting
dark and I could not find the owners manual for the furler (funny, I could
have sworn I saw it in the locker not two years ago) decided to pack it in
and not drop parts into the Hudson (oops, splash) or worse yet drop
forestay/mast into Hudson (OOPS,B!
> ANG, SPLASH). Does anyone have the exploded view of the furler they could
fax to me ? fax here 845 358 5955, will leave on tonight. Help would be
greatly appreciated, as the wind is just coming back from its summer
vacation and I hope to sail up to Thanksgiving. The next time you-all cross
the Tappan Zee bridge, look to the south on the west side and wave to
Sirocco, you can't miss her if you are coming from the west, you will be
looking right at her for the first 1/4 mile of the bridge.
