[Alberg30] Cockpit lazarette seats?

Greetings,
    Bill Burke's boat that's for sale (at
http://www.interlakes.org/ilhs/faculty/bburke/alberg.htm) looks great.  I
much admired his photos.
    A question to Bill and others, what did you make the lazarette seats out
of?  Mine came with a funky arrangement of boards bound together and "sort
of " fiberglassed at the bottom, but they leaked.  I assembled another set
using marine plywood, but fashioning inside and outside edges to take the
hinge and latch devices was problematic.

    Anyone have a handy solution to this?
